Orthopaedic Associates of Central Maryland (OACM) recently welcomed orthopaedic surgeon, Ke Xie, M.D., to the practice. A specialist in joint arthritis and joint replacement surgery, Dr. Xie specializes in revision surgery for hip and knee replacement patients.
“Over the last several decades, hip and knee replacements have been highly successful,” says Dr. Xie. “However, as patients are living longer and receiving joint replacements at a younger age, a growing group of patients are outliving their implants and requiring revision surgery. With extensive experience in complex revision procedures, I work with this expanding patient population to achieve the best results.”
Along with OACM orthopaedic surgeon, Sam Sydney, M.D., Dr. Xie works with revision surgery candidates to develop specific treatment plans as well as perform hip and knee joint revision surgery when needed, utilizing the most advanced surgical implants to ensure improved function and mobility for a continued quality of life.
Dr. Xie’s orthopaedic areas of expertise include:
- Partial and total joint replacement
- Revision and complex total joint replacement
- Robotic/computer-assisted joint replacement
- Muscle-sparing minimally invasive surgery
- Trauma and fracture care
- Arthroscopic surgery
- Stem cell therapy (cartilage regeneration/osteoarthritis)
Dr. Xie earned his medical degree at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine in 2010, where he received numerous honors and recognitions. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio, followed by a fellowship in adult reconstruction at the Florida Orthopaedic Institute in Temple Terrace, Florida (2016).
His goal is to educate patients about their conditions and put into place the right treatment plan to help restore joint function, reduce and/or eliminate pain and improve a person’s quality of living.
“Many conditions can cause severe arthritis leading to joint pain and disability, directing patients to consider hip and knee replacement surgery. One of my favorite things about joint replacement surgery is that treatment often gives patients real and tangible results, leading to significant improvements in their quality of life,” says Dr. Xie. “As a joint replacement specialist, I have been trained to recognize and treat these conditions, often using cutting-edge surgical techniques such as minimally invasive muscle sparing procedures, as well as robotic and computer-assisted surgeries to improve accuracy and outcomes.”
